Real Halloween Treat

October 31st, 2012 | Posted in All Blog Posts, Mike's Blog, Testimony Cafe | No Comments

I have passed out these poems for many years as my Halloween treat and would like
to share them with you.

One Spirit

Tonight’s a night when people think

Of witches, ghosts and such…

But there’s someone that kids should know

Who loves them very much!

He has the power that spirits don’t

He created you and me,

He came to tell us of our sins

And died for them on a tree.

The story doesn’t end there for

He soon arose again…

He said He’s coming back for all

Whose hearts would ask Him in!

I’m sure the name of this someone

Is one that you can guess…

The one who made the heavens and earth,

The Son of God:  Jesus!

****************************************************

Tonight’s the night we love to hide

Behind a well-thought-up disguise…

But Jesus sees our very heart,

He even sees the hidden parts!

He knows we can’t disguise our sin

For soon we make mistakes again…

Anger, gossip, lies, and such,

Try as we might they trip us up!

So Jesus came to show us God

For He is the very heart of love…

He’s also holy, and we must see

If God in heaven we would see!

But since God knows that we are not,

He sent His Son to cleanse each blot

And stain of sin within each one

Who asks Him in and trusts His Son!

God so loved the world that He gave His Son, that whoever believes on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

Life Is Too Short

September 27th, 2012 | Posted in Testimony Cafe | No Comments

The point of this letter is to explain how life is so short that you often miss it and take it for granted.

I came to this realization tonight in a cab ride home back to my apartment. Four gun shots rang out in the middle of the night outside of a popular bar downtown. Wanting to go home a frail older black lady cab driver picked me up from downtown and proceeded to take me back to my apartment. As we rounded the corner, she notices a very intoxicated female and asked if it was okay to pick her up and share the cab with me. I agreed and we let her in however she was going to a different apartment out of the way. We made it to her place with little interaction and as we arrived at her apartment complex the young girl was not going to pay the cab driver. So I told the cab driver I would pick up the girl’s tab. And without a word the girl got out and walked away.

As we pulled out of the apartment complex, the frail old lady turned back to me and thanked me. Shocked, I replied “Why are you thanking me, I did nothing.” She said “You didn’t have to do that at all.” She proceeded to tell me that girls today don’t realize how simple it is to be taken advantage of and all these horrible things can happen to them. And how it takes such a harsh and tragic event to change how people
think, like the gunshots I heard tonight. For the remainder of the ride home, we talked about how people truly take their lives for granted. Not just how people are content on living their life, but all things that truly matter in your life. God, your family, friends, loved ones, the things that make you happy.

When we finally arrived at my apartment, she looked back at me and said, “You don’t owe me anything.” I was so moved by this I offered more than double the cab fare and she declined it. Sitting in the back of this cab in disbelief, she said to me, “Don’t worry about it. God has a great plan for you, which is payment enough.” This cab driver made me realize that life is so precious and it should not be squandered. That you should live every moment to its fullest potential no matter what. And that you should live your life for God. And without God, you
are nothing.

I wanted to share this with you because I was so moved by this little old lady cab driver. I had fallen away from God. And it’s remarkable how God can show himself in the strangest of ways and allow you to come back to him. God has truly shown himself to me tonight. And this lady needs to be recognized for the great person she truly is. This has truly changed my life for the greater because it has brought me the closest to God I have ever been and I hope this could have an impact on someone’s life as well.

A Training Period

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33 (NLT)

Adopted at six weeks old, teased as a child because of his physical looks, then as an adult using drugs and alcohol for comfort, turned Rob into his own worst enemy. His path of destruction took him from top of world where he had everything to living under a bridge.

Rae was mesmerized by Rob. Having been raised in a Christian home and actively involved in a youth group at church, how in the world did these two seemingly different individuals become “soul” mates.

Rob and Rae’s life together ran a gauntlet of hardships, sorrows, and pure survival. Rob’s paycheck went solely for his addictions, and when that ran out he stole from his wife and children. He did whatever it took to keep up his addictions. Rae found herself moving away from the church because of shame, living in fear of physical abuse, and begging God to let her husband die in order to rid her of the pain.

How could God possibly have a purpose in any of this? A question Rae asked herself every moment of every day.

The tears of our biggest hurts can be transformed into the most amazing opportunities for ministry. Today Rob preaches in prisons and detoxifications centers. As a couple, Rob and Rae share their testimony at Celebrate Recovery programs all over the Carolinas. They’ve been there and because they’ve been there they can be a point of light that helps another find their way to God.

As a jailer once told Rob, “yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift. God named it the Present.” Rob and Rae are sharing their present with you—God’s love.

Why Did I Get An “F”?

October 8th, 2009 | Posted in All Blog Posts, Testimony Cafe, Testimony Cafe 2 | No Comments

Somehow we get confused into thinking that we have to earn God’s love. Jan was one of those who believed that notion.

From early childhood she attended church, but it wasn’t until she was in her twenties that she accepted Christ. She was attending a small Methodist church at the time and was befriend by the pastor and his wife. Jan noticed something different about them. They had this peace and she wanted the same for herself. So she threw herself into finding it.

Jan was actively involved in church, attending healings, prayer meetings, Bible studies, Christian workshops and conferences. Her most intimate times with God were when she prayed. This was a special time between God and Jan.

As it does, life evolves and years later Jan is married with children and finds herself dealing with the knit and grind of responsibilities. Nursing school, family and marriage difficulties, and three small children didn’t leave much time anymore for the intimacy she once had with God.

Because of guilt Jan gave herself an “F” for failure. She allowed it to drive a wedge in her relationship with God. She had difficulty accepting the truth that God had given her an “F” for forgiveness. She need not try to earn it. God gives it freely and lovingly.

Looking back, Jan sees that while life’s difficulties can shock your soul, they can also infuse you with valuable wisdom. When God forgives you, you are forgiven.
